Our new series is Psalm 119, Light for the Path. In Psalm 119, we find a people rejoicing. Together they sing a song filled with joy. They know a heart satisfied and pleased.
What occasion filled their hearts with happy singing? In what did they rejoice? Psalm 119:13-16 makes plain in what their hearts found satisfaction,
Psalm 119:13–16 ESV
13 With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. 14 In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
The community of God's people rejoiced over God's Word because in God's Word - more specifically His Law and commands - they delighted (Ps. 119:35, 72, 103, 127, 162).
As we listen to this community rejoice over God's law we learn much about them. If we pay attention to the words spoken by their hearts satisfied in the word of God, we will find a people convinced of certain truths, resolved to certain actions, and making certain requests.
These convictions, resolutions, and petitions are found, not only in this community of believers who delight in the Law of God, but in every community in which the commandments of God are treasured. Where these are absent, the word of God will be despised. The Law of God will be discarded. And the way of God will be set aside so that men might go in the way that seems right in their own eyes. When the righteousness of God is promoted and upheld the crowd will lament and groan.
May God shape us into the kind of people who rejoice over God's Law because their hearts delight in it.

You may notice that our new Cell Group Journal does not cover Psalm 119, but rather the Sinai narrative in Exodus. Our aim in this is that as we see a people delighting in the Law of God in our sermons on Sundays, we also see the people as they first received the law.
Physical copies of the Cell Group Journal are available at Guest Services. To access our online version, click HERE.
